An apothecary, not a factory.
Lumière began in Grasse — the town that has perfumed the world for four centuries — as a quiet reaction to an industry that had grown loud, fast and overcomplicated. We wanted the opposite: a short shelf of honest formulas you could trust without a manual.
So we set up a small workshop at 14 Rue des Bosquets and made things the slow way. Every formula is mixed in modest batches, decanted by hand, and rested before it ever reaches a box. Nothing is rushed to meet a season; a formula leaves the maison only when the skin it was made for would be glad of it.
We have stayed deliberately small. It means we know our suppliers by name, we can pour a batch again the moment it sells through, and the person who answers bonjour@lumiere-skin.fr is the same person who measured the squalane that morning.

Each formula is developed over roughly eighteen months alongside a cosmetic chemist here in Grasse. We work to a simple brief — biocompatible, barrier-kind, and potent only where potency earns its place. No fillers added for feel, no actives added for the label.
Everything is patch-tested on sensitive and reactive skin before it is signed off, then refined again until it sits quietly against the barrier rather than provoking it. We would rather a formula did a little, beautifully, than a great deal, harshly.
And every drop is sealed in amber glass — never plastic, never clear. The deep tint shields light-sensitive actives like bakuchiol and peptides from the very thing that degrades them, so the formula you finish is as alive as the one you opened.

Hyaluronic Acid
Multi-weight molecules draw water deep into the barrier and hold it there — plump, cushioned, hours-long hydration.
Squalane
A weightless, plant-derived lipid that mirrors skin's own oils, softening and sealing without a trace of grease.
Niacinamide
Vitamin B3 that calms redness, refines the look of pores and steadies the barrier over time — quietly, reliably.
Peptides
Short chains of amino acids that signal skin to firm and renew, supporting bounce and resilience as the years pass.
Bakuchiol
A botanical, retinol-free path to clarity — it refines texture and tone overnight without the sting or the flaking.
Ceramides
The mortar between skin cells. Replenished, they rebuild the barrier and lock moisture in where it belongs.

The amber glass we choose to protect each formula is also the glass we ask you to keep. Bottles, droppers and jars are designed to last — heavy, considered objects meant to sit on a shelf for years, not to be replaced each season.
When a bottle runs low, our refill programme sends the formula in a lighter, fully recyclable pouch to top up the glass you already own — less packaging, less weight, less waste, and a gentler price each time you return.
Cartons are printed on recycled board with soy-based inks, outers are plastic-free, and every component of the glass is recyclable at end of life. Slow living, all the way down to the box.
